Residents of several villages and colonies,on Saturday,complained of an itching in their eyes after gas leaks in the area. Later,teams of police,30 doctors and the fire brigade reached the affected areas,which include Dhanas,Sarangpur and Dadumajra. Vehicles of the Chandigarh police and ambulances of the Government Multi-Specialty Hospital, Sector 16 were sent to trace the location of the leak and find patients,while doctors at Government Medical College and Hospital were put on alert. Checks were conducted on dumping grounds in the area,where possible chemicals could have been thrown. The source remains undetected even though police confirmed that the IRB had used tear gas shells in the evening. However,this was not confirmed as the reason for the residents complains of itching.
