Reeling under debt,jr engineer took to fraud through online transactions

The Mohali Cyber Crime Cell on Wednesday arrested a junior engineer posted at Pathankot for duping people by making online transactions with details of their ATM cards.

The Mohali Cyber Crime Cell on Wednesday arrested a junior engineer posted at Pathankot for duping people by making online transactions with details of their (people) ATM cards.

Reeling under debt,Veer Davinder Singh,used to take pictures of the ATM card number through his mobile phones and note down the password. As per the Cyber Cell,the junior engineer along with other accused used to loiter at ATM kiosks,while people withdrew money.

After acquiring the information (ATM card number and password),the accused used to make online purchases. The accused had purchased gold and other valuables worth 7 lakh. Apart from Veer Davinder Singh,who was the mastermind of the gang,Amritsar-resident Gurmeet Singh has also been arrested.

Senior Superintendent of Police Pradeep Kumar said more members of the gang are yet to be arrested.

Pradeep Kumar added “The accused targetted illiterate people in villages and used to be present inside ATM kiosks when people used to come to withdraw money. The accused used to click pictures of the ATM cards and noted down the passwords. Later,they used to misuse the information to make online purchases”.

A team comprising of Inspector Bahadur Singh and Cyber Crime Lab In-Charge Ved Parkash caught the accused on a tip off.

Gold coins worth Rs 3 lakh,a desktop,two mobile phone and two SIM cards have been recovered from the accused.

A case on charges of cheating,forgery and criminal conspiracy has been registered by the Mohali Cyber Crime.
