Marking innovations to the age-old tradition of performing Ramleela, the organisers are trying to incorporate the latest technology and have invested in sound and light system, animating scenes enacted by the artistes.

Rajinder Bagga, the assistant director of Shree Ramleela committee that is holding its performance at Parade Ground in Sector 17,said: “We have made a 18-foot stage and introduced light and sound system. The technology allows us to show the scenes without break and the attention of audience doesn’t get disrupted. We are happy at their response.”

Gone are the days when after each scene, the curtain was dropped as now the scene changes instantly.

Rakesh Kumar, the organiser of Chandigarh Ramleela Committee, said,“Earlier,to show water we used a blue sheet but now we use real water. Also in a death scene,we display real fire to show the actor being actually set on fire. These innovations add more interest to the performance.”

“We also have a new sound system that has sounds like those of rain, thunders, animals. It adds life to the entire performance,” he added.

Though these changes have bulged the budget of the committees but they find appreciation from audience to be the biggest reward.

Ramleela is being held at 50 places in the city,as of the 51 organisers applying for the permission,50 were granted.
