Rains lash parts of Punjab, Haryana

Heavy rains lashed several places in Punjab and Haryana for the third consecutive day as on December 15, 2014 with Chandigarh receiving a record rainfall of 74.3 mm. According to the MeT department, Chandigarh received 74.3 mm of rains on December 14 breaking the record of 55.8 mm rains in December, 1982.

The night temperature here on 15 December, 2014 was 9.3 degrees Celsius, two notches above normal. Ambala recorded a low of 9.9 degrees Celsius, three notches above the normal, while Hisar registered a minimum temperature of 10.3 degrees Celsius, two notches up. Karnal’s minimum temperature was recorded at 10.2 degrees Celsius, two notches above normal, while Narnaul’s low was recorded at 7.5 degrees Celsius. Bhiwani recorded a minimum temperature of 10.6 degrees Celsius, up two degrees. In Punjab, Amritsar recorded a low of 3.6 degrees Celsius. Ludhiana registered a low of 7.9 degrees Celsius, one notch above normal, while Patiala recorded a minimum of 10.7 degrees Celsius, four notches above normal.

The maximum temperatures at most places in the two states on December 14 settled in the range of 14-17 degrees Celsius. Meanwhile, Chandigarh (12.8 mm), Ambala (13.8 mm), Hisar (1 mm), Karnal (1.6 mm), Bhiwani (15.4 mm), Ludhiana (5.6 mm) and Patiala (11.2 mm) were the places which received rains. Icy winds swept the region.
