Rain ushers in two-day Rose Festival

Although rain played spoilsport during the first half of the show, the 43rd Rose Festival managed to get a colourful start at the Rose Garden on Friday.

Although rain played spoilsport during the first half of the show, the 43rd Rose Festival managed to get a colourful start at the Rose Garden on Friday.

The festival was inaugurated by Adviser to the UT Administrator Vijay Kumar Dev. He said that such events provide the right platform to artistes and artisans to project their rich cultural heritage and an opportunity to display capabilities, innovations and expertise. The event was attended by the CITCO MD-cum-Director Tourism Kavita Sharma and other officials of the UT Administration, Municipal Corporation, as well as the mayor and councillors.

Folk dances teams from different states including Rajasthan, Assam, Manipur, Gujarat, Haryana and Leh and Ladakh were seen performing, while artistes could be seen belting out old Bollywood numbers.

School students presented vegetable carvings and participated in flower arrangement competions. Adding to the attraction were fun games and food stalls at the Lesiure Valley, Sector 10, hosted by the UT Tourism Department and CITCO. Magic shows and puppet shows for the children and Bollywood ‘musical nite’ featuring singer Babul Supriyo were the highlights of the day.

In one of the competitions, ‘Mr and Miss Rose’, Amandeep and Shrishti bagged the first prize, followed by Robbin and Neha, and Bhupinder and Yogdeep.
