Congress councillor Devinder Singh Babla today said the details revealed in the probe by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) about Major Nirvikar Singh,Aide-de-Camp of former Punjab Governor and UT Administrator Gen S F Rodrigues (Retd) was just a tip of the iceberg. He demanded a thorough probe into Nirvikar’s alleged involvement in various controversial projects in the city.

Addressing a press conference today,Babla said the Home Ministry should be allowed to question Gen Rodrigues also as his involvement could not be negated. “During the tenure of Gen Rodrigues,he started the trend of targeting anyone who spoke against him. Cases were registered against many Congress leaders and councillors. I was also targeted by him and numerous cases have been registered against me,” said Babla.

Babla had in 2009 written a letter to Gen Rodrigues against the mega projects for which land was being acquired from farmers. The letter stated that farmers were being paid pittance for the land that was being allotted for the mega projects. He stated that there should be transparency in the dealings otherwise they would get an enquiry conducted by an independent government agency. Thereafter, the relations between the two had soured.

Babla today demanded that the unutilized land be given back to farmers. Condemning the BJP,he said the party always backed Gen Rodrigues and his policies. Stating that the Congress made a mistake in appointing Gen Rodrigues as the administrator,he said that when the mistake was realized the party stood united to oppose his policies.

He further demanded that Rodrigues’ coterie should also be questioned. The call details of Nirvikar be scanned and his links with the officials in the Administration should be probed. He also demanded that the allotment of mega projects to various companies be probed as these seemed to have been allotted to favour certain parties.
