Punjab women’s panel takes cognisance of rape of 19-year-old in Jalandhar
According to the complaint, the victim was allegedly made to consume an intoxicant before being raped.

The Punjab State Women Commission has taken a suo motu cognisance of the alleged rape of a 19-year-old woman from Jalandhar and also directed police to take action into the matter.
Two people allegedly raped the teenager after giving her a sedative and also made an objectionable video of her which was shared on social media, the commission said, terming it a “serious matter”.
Commission chairperson Raj Lalli Gill condemned the incident and called it “extremely shameful”. Gill stressed that the accused must not be spared under any circumstances. The commission has sought a detailed report from police and concerned officials.
“The police must submit their report at the earliest. If immediate and strict steps are not taken, the commission will intervene directly,” Gill said, adding that ensuring justice for the survivor is the commission’s priority.
According to the complaint, the victim was allegedly made to consume an intoxicant before being raped. The accused also recorded a video of the assault, which was later shared online. The commission has questioned why timely action was not taken despite the seriousness of the crime.
The commission has directed the police to submit a comprehensive report of the investigation by August 22, 2025, and to ensure swift arrests of the accused.
Jalandhar Rural police said that an FIR has been registered under charges of rape and for circulating the video. While two accused were named in the case, an arrest is yet to be made.
