Punjab's first Panchkarma therapy centre was inaugurated at the Civil Hospital in Phase VI here today. Punjab Health and Family Welfare Minister Laxmi Kanta Chawla,while addressing inaugural function,said the centre was first-of-its-kind in the region and the people of this part of the country would no longer have to go to south India for getting treatment under the Panchkarma therapy. Medical specialists of Panchkarma therapy have been deputed at the centre to provide all type of Panchkarma treatment, she said,while stating that this system was one of the oldest systems of healthcare and through this system,the diseases were treated at the root-level and do not show their recurrences and purifies the body by eradicating the causative factors from the body. To treat paralysis,cerebral palsy,sciatica,gout,arthritis,P.I.V.D,low back pain,polio-mylitis,mental retardation and insomnia,Panchkarma treatment was given through snehan (massage),swedan (fomentation) and vasthi karma while diseases like epistaxis,fever,jaundice,urticaria,hypertension and skin diseases were also treated with different procedures of the Panchkarma therapy. Principal Secretary,Health and Family Welfare,Satish Chandra said after the success of this Panchkarma centre,more funds will be released by Centre for Panchkarma centres for rest of the districts in Punjab. Panchkarma therapy is anti-aging as well as rejuvenative type of therapy,which can be given to healthy as well as ailing persons, he said. Course gets under wayA 10-week Professional Development Course (PDC) in management,public health and health sector reforms for senior medical officers of Punjab was also inaugurated by Health Minister at the State Institute of Health and Family Welfare in Phase VI here today. This programme was supported by the European Commission as well as the Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare. In her inaugural address,Chawla said the profession of doctor was one of the most respectable and noble in the society and they were gifted with life-saving skills and talent and they must serve humanity in a selfless manner. Doctors are envisaged as brilliant minds,however largely being associated with clinical skills,they require to upgrade managerial skills as well in order to help achieve pace with the fast moving world, she said,while expecting the doctors to act as agents of change to ensure availability,accessibility and affordability of healthcare services among the community at large.
