Former Congress president Navjot Singh Sidhu, who came out of jail on April 1 after serving his term in the road rage case, on Saturday attacked the ruling AAP and said that the ‘mafia raj’ is ruling the roost in the state at a double speed.
Calling the AAP “poachers”, he said that they are begging leaders of other political parties to join them so to give them ticket to contest elections.
Sidhu was speaking in Jalandhar where he was visiting the family of Late Congress MP Santokh Singh Chaudhary to express his condolences. The former MP passed away in January this year during Rahul Gandhi’s Bharat Jodo Yatra, thus necessitating the bypoll in the constituency.
Talking about Congress candidate, Karamjit Kaur, who is the widow of the MP, Sidhu said that there could not be a more credible face than her for the Jalandhar seat.
Without naming Sushil Rinku, former Congress MLA who joined AAP and was given the ticket, Sidhu said, “Big talkers (AAP) are giving tickets to the leaders of other parties. AAP came to power by making big promises but nothing changed. In fact, sand and liquor mafia are dominating the state under the patronage of AAP leaders who are at the helm of affairs. They made big promises to root out the mafia raj in the state but today mafia raj is much more stronger.”
Taking a jibe at Arvind Kejriwal, Sidhu added that the AAP National Convenor used to say that he would tighten the noose on mafia. “Now where have all these promises gone? Where is the Rs 1000 that they promised to credit in the accounts of every women of the state every month? Mann used to call me ‘Guru’ (master) and today I ask him to come in front of me and talk to me about these issues,” said he, adding, “Now he is the CM and he has the responsibility. He should not send his pawns, but come and talk himself. We will talk in front of the media.”
