Punjab farmers’ protest: Heavy police force deputed in Mohali today
The farmers will hold a rally in Chandigarh on Tuesday, seeking compensation for crop losses suffered during the recent floods. A farmer had died on Monday after clashes with the police in Sangrur.

Heavy police force was deployed in Punjab’s Mohali district on Tuesday hours ahead of the farmers’ protest rally scheduled to be held in Chandigarh to seek compensation for crop losses suffered during the recent floods.
With Mohali serving as the entry point to Chandigarh, around 1,000 police personnel were posted at 27 locations in the district on Tuesday, in a bid to prevent the entry of the protesting farmers who will march to Chandigarh.
The rally comes a day after clashes broke out between farmers and the police in Sangrur on Monday leading to the death of a farmer and injuries to five policemen. The farmers were protesting the detention of several farm union leaders ahead of the Chandigarh rally.
The farmer unions have alleged that the police raided the houses of their leaders to prevent them from taking part in the protest.
Sixteen farm unions, including the Kisan Mazdoor Sangharsh Committee, Bharti Kisan Union (Krantikari), BKU (Ekta Azad), Aazad Kisan Committee, BKU (Behramke) and the Bhoomi Bachao Mohim, are part of the protest.
