Amid the persisting cold wave in the region, the Punjab government Sunday extended the closure of primary schools till January 21. However, schools for remaining classes will open from January 15 (Monday).

Punjab Education Minister Harjot Singh Bains, in a post on X, wrote that as per the orders of Chief Minster Bhagwant Mann, all government, aided, affiliated and private primary schools (pre-primary, and class 1 to 5) will remain closed till January 21.

However, all middle (class 6 to 8), high (class 6 to 10) and senior secondary (class 6 to 12) schools will open regularly from January 15. The timings would be 10 am to 3 pm.

Bains further wrote that all double-shift schools will function from 9 am to 4 pm. No school running in double shift will open after 4 pm, Bains said.

Earlier, schools in Punjab were closed from January 8 to 14.
