Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann has alleged that Prime Minister Narendra Modi jailed former Delhi deputy chief minister Manish Sisodia and former health minister Satyendar Jain at the behest of private lobbies that resented reforms initiated by them in public education and health, respectively.
“ ‘For what purpose have we been given commission (by private schools)?’ Modi sahib said, ‘Send him (Manish Sisiodia) to jail’. Manish Sisodia was arrested. Then Modi sent Satyendar Jain to jail under pressure from the private hospital lobby after he improved government hospitals in Delhi.
“Then Modi sent Sanjay Singh to jail for exposing his friend. When they come to know that the AAP was spreading across the nation, they sent an ED notice to Arvind Kejriwal,” the chief minister said as he and his Delhi counterpart addressed a public meeting after inaugurating the Baba Banda Singh Bahadur International Bus Terminal and a railway underpass in Gurdaspur on Saturday.
Some protesters tried to disrupt the event as soon as Mann started to speak from the stage. He blamed Opposition parties for the ruckus but said he would not be cowed down by such efforts. “They can arrest Kejriwal but how can they arrest the idea of Kejriwal as crores of people follow this idea,” he said.
Mann also attacked Sunny Deol, the actor-turned-BJP MP, for not visiting Gurdaspur, his constituency.
“Tell me when Sunny Deol last came to Gurdaspur. Sunny Deol came to the Golden Temple to ensure the success of his movie but did not come to Gurdaspur. Break the myth that Gurdaspur is theirs (BJP’s). According to our surveys, the whole Punjab is going to vote in favour of Punjab (in the Lok Sabha polls). It will be 13-0.”
