The Punjab government on Wednesday removed Navneet Wadhwa as the director of communications in the office of Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann.

A government spokesperson said Wadhwa was asked to resign. He submitted his resignation, and it was accepted. “He was a Punmedia (Punjab State Media Society) employee. The government does not need his services anymore. What is the big deal about it?” the spokesperson asked.

Wadhwa was the second person associated with the chief minister to be removed by the government. A few days ago, Onkar Singh was removed as officer on special duty (OSD) to the chief minister. Sources said some more removals are on the way. “In the coming days, some more officials will be on their way out,” said a source.

Onkar Singh was considered close to the CM and was in charge of his Assembly constituency, Dhuri. His removal came as a surprise as he was also handling Mann’s wife, Dr Gurpreet Kaur’s political programmes.

Before Onkar Singh, four ministers were dropped from Mann’s Cabinet: Bram Shankar Jimpa, Chetan Singh Jouramajra, Anmol Gagan Mann, and Balkar Singh. Jouramajra and Mann were considered close to CM Mann.
