PU gets Rs 1 cr to kick start city’s knowledge cluster

Panjab University (PU) has received Rs 1 crore grant under the Member Parliament Local Area Development Scheme (MPLADS) to initiate the Chandigarh Region Innovation and Knowledge Cluster (CRIKC).

Panjab University (PU) has received Rs 1 crore grant under the Member Parliament Local Area Development Scheme (MPLADS) to initiate the Chandigarh Region Innovation and Knowledge Cluster (CRIKC). The fund will be used to provide 2-air conditioned shuttle service buses to link different institutions participating in CRIKC.

The grant was given by Union Minister of Railways and local MP Pawan Kumar Bansal.

In August 2012,the university had mooted the idea to create a knowledge cluster in Chandigarh. After several rounds of meetings of institution heads,it was unanimously agreed to name the knowledge cluster CRIKC.

The mandate of CRIKC is to promote excellence in higher education and research with emphasis on interdisciplinary research.

Apart from PU,Post Graduate Institute of Medical Education and Research (PGIMER),Indian Institute of Science Education and Research,(IISER),Mohali,Central Scientific Instruments Organisation (CSIO),Institute of Microbial Technology (IMTECH),National Institute of Pharmaceutical Education and Research (NIPER),National Agri-Food Biotechnology Institute (NABI),Terminal Ballistics Research Laboratory (TBRL),Indian School of Business (ISB),Mohali,PEC University of Engineering and Technology and many other institutions in Chandigarh region will participate in the knowledge cluster.

CRIKC proposes to carry out several collaborative activities,including sharing of library resources,joint conferences,lecture notifications among different institutions,joint PhD programmes,recognition of supervisors on mutual basis and initiation of joint research programmes.
