The lack of proper signages present a problem for the visitors to the Panjab University campus. Spread over an 550 acres with two campuses, the absence of guide maps make it difficult for those unfamiliar with the campus to locate the departments. While signboards are only next to the departments indicating the name of the building or department, there are no signages or guide maps at the entrances. There are more than 70 departments in the University and the visitors who come here, face a lot of problem to find their particular destination. This problem is mostly faced at the time of admissions and entrance tests being held in the different departments of the University. Neetu,a student who had come to attend a seminar from outside told Newsline that she kept asking people where the Golden Jubilee Hall was located. I asked around 4-5 people and then finally I reached here but was late. I asked the students as well but they also did not know. When asked Dean Student Welfare A S Ahluwalia said that there are already few signboards near the Guest House and SBI Bank which indicate the location of 2-3 buildings. The signboards have been taken off sometimes so as to update and repaint them due to the addition of various new departments. He further stated that updated maps indicating each and every department of the University will be put up within this month. These maps have been prepared.
