Pradeep stuns top seed Harry

Big serving Pradeep K Reddy unleashed some powerful serves that had Harry Jindal,the top seed,on the foot most of the time. By the time Harry managed to figure out a plan to counter Pradeep’s serves,he was alreay out of the game and the player bowed out of the boys’ Under-18 category in the AITA Talent Series played at CLTA Complex in Sector 10 on Tuesday.

Pradeep,who hails from Andhra Pradesh,used his powerful forehands to good effect and took the first set 6-4. Harry found his powerful serves hard to return as the top seed easily succumbed to 1-6 defeat in the second seed,thereby causing the biggest upset of the tournament. With this win,Pradeep cruised into the last eight of the tournament.

Meanwhile,Ranjeet Singh continued his good run with a three-set win over Shikhar Gaddh from Haryana. Ranjeet,who had lost the first set 1-6,focussed on consistency and made his opponent play many more balls in the second and third set. Ranjeet maintained pressure on Shikkhar and made him committ many unforced errors. In the end,Ranjeet won the match 1-6,6-1,6-3.

In an one-sided affair,seeded players in the girls’ Under-18 singles,except for fourth seed Charvi,maintained their winning momentum. Harsimran Kaur gave the fourth seed a scare with some good tactical play and court coverage. Charvi eventually won a close match 6-3,3-6,7-5.
