The Punjab Civil Service (Executive) examination is set to make a comeback after 12 long years with Punjab Public Service Commission (PPSC) deciding to conduct the test on December 19 this year.
Highly placed sources said the PPSC on Tuesday decided to conduct the examination on December 19 this year and admit cards will be sent to eligible candidates within a week.
The examination was initially slated for July 2009,and then the date was tentatively postponed to November 28 this year. However, sources said,in Tuesdays meeting it was decided that the exam would not be deferred again.
As per the recommendations made by PPSC,the PCS executive exams will be on the pattern of Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) examination held for Indian Administration Services (IAS). The recommendations were sent to the state government for final approval, which it had then approved.
The last time PCS (executive) examinations were conducted was in 1998. They were discontinued after a scam was reported in the conduct of the examination.
Some students have demanded that the age limit for these examinations should be raised to 37 years from the present 35 years as many other departments of the state government, such as the technical education department, have already raised the recruitment age to 37 years.
