Poll fever sets city rolling on vote-garnering track

Congress rally reaches Raipur Kalan

Chandigarh: The CTCC organised a rally to village Raipur Kalan on Sunday where the leaders discussed issues pertaining to land acquisition with the villagers. Union Minister of State for Finance Pawan Kumar Bansal stated that it was unfortunate that the price being paid for land acquisition was so low. He added that while the land owners are being paid such low prices,the houses being constructed on the land are priced as high as Rs 52 lakh for a two room set. Village Sarpanch Gurdeep Singh said the people of the villages were being “looted” by the UT Administration.

‘Himachali’ hopes for the BJP

The Himachalis in the city organised a function to extend their support to the BJP. Rajinder Rana,chairman,Himachal government media advisory board stated that the people of Himachal would have a substantial role to play in the coming elections. Former parliamentarian and BJP leader Satya Pal Jain accused the Congress-led UPA government of failing on all fronts. Alleging lack of development in the city,Jain added: “The situation of law and order is pathetic. Issues pertaining to employees remain unsolved. The city was to get Class A status which has not been done.” President of the city unit of the BJP Kamla Sharma stated that people of all sections now want elections as they are “fed up with the rule of the Congress”.

No escape from eve teasing

While the members of the RJD addressed the crowd inside the venue at Sector 33,the scene outside was shameful,to put it mildly. A number of people indulged in eve teasing and for over three hours,it was difficult for women to pass the area.

RJD names their man

The RJD named Haffiz Anwar-Ul-Haq as their city candidate for the Lok Sabha elections. Haffiz is the president of the Iqra Foundation of Minorities. Ravinder Krishan has been named as the president of the city unit of the party.

In a function organised in Sector 33 on Sunday,the party leaders claimed that several members of the Congress,BJP and NCP have joined the RJD.
