Alok Bansal,Executive Director of the National Maritime Foundation,New Delhi,said that the sectarian divisions,ethnic loyalties and deteriorating economic conditions of Pakistan do not augur well for India. He was delivering a lecture on Contemporary Developments in Pakistan and its Implications for India at the Department of Political Science,Guru Nanak Dev University,here.
Bansal pointed out that the situation in Pakistan has come to such a stage that economic decline is posing a serious threat to the internal security of the country and,therefore,to neighbouring states such as India. He said that the economic growth of Pakistan has been on the decline and the per capita income has been decreasing,with Pakistans share of global trade being negligible. Moreover,its heavy debt and the failure to repay debt obligations is further accentuating the economic problems of the country that has the potential to destabilise political conditions in South Asia,he added. Prof Kuldip Singh,Head of the Department of Political Science,pointed out that Pakistan has been cultivating its ties with Muslim countries with a view to find strategic depth which is not good from the Indian point of view.
