Polish tourist raped in Himachal’s McLeod Ganj, 1 held

According to the police, Chauhan, a resident of Upper Bhagsu, owns several rooms in McLeod Ganj that he rents out to tourists. He allegedly met the woman at a local shop and promised to help her while she stayed in McLeod Ganj.

A police source said that the woman alleged that the man had raped her on Thursday on the pretext of marriage. “The room where the crime took place was inspected by a team of forensic experts. Certain samples were also collected from the room. The suspect is being questioned and the Poland embassy is being informed,” the source added.

After the woman lodged a complaint at the jurisdictional police station on Friday, a case under Section 376 (rape) of the Indian Penal Code was registered.

“The victim is a foreign national. She came to India on a tourist visa for recreational activities. We have verified her allegations. The initial investigation has established the crime. The victim’s statement under Section 164 of CrPC was recorded before a local magistrate. The victim has identified the suspect and it has come to light that they were in contact for the last two weeks. Further investigation is on,” Shalini Agnihotri, Superintendent of Police (SP), Kangra, said.

McLeod Ganj is a famous tourist location where Tsuglag Khang, home to the Dalai Lama, is situated. Thousands of foreign nationals visit McLeod Ganj every year.
