A Policeman who received serious burn injuries outside the residence of former Punjab Director General of Police on Sunday morning succumbed to his injuries on Monday at PGI. The police constable was identified as Harjeet Singh (36),a resident of Kapurthala,Punjab.
Hardeep succumbed to his injuries in PGI in the wee hours on Monday, said Inspector Surinder Kumar,Station House Officer of Chandimandir police station,The condition of the other injured policeman is stated to be stable and continues to remain admitted in PGI, he added.
The two policemen Harjeet Singh and Multan Singh,were guarding the residence of former DGP Punjab,S V Singh in Sector 26 Panchkula,when a fire broke out inside a tent allegedly due to a short circuit in the wee hours of Sunday. The tent was burnt completely before the fire tenders could reach the spot. The two policemen suffered serious burn injuries and were rushed to Sector 6 hospital in Panchkula. They were,however,shifted to PGI for treatment. Police have ruled out the possibility of any foul play.
We recorded the statement of Multan Singh and he said that they were sleeping in the tent and the fire was caused due to a short circuit. The forensic experts have also come to the same conclusion, said a police officer at Chandimandir.
Meanwhile,the postmortem of the body was conducted at Sector 6,General hospital and after the legal formalities the body was handed over to his family.
