The train carrying coal was stopped by the residents who sat on the tracks near Mauli Jagran in the morning. The protesters refused to let the coal being unloaded. They were joined by the local BJP leaders. The stalemate continued till late in the evening as the talks between the protesters and railway officials led to no conclusion.
The train driver said as soon as he reached the area,a person drove a car (CH04 F 3871) onto the tracks and stalled the train. Thereafter,a large number of residents of the area gathered at the spot.
Former councillor of the area Anil Dubey said the material like coal and cement being unloaded at the yard was causing health problems for the residents of the nearby areas. It is a demand of the residents that the unloading of material be stopped. The dust from the yard is affecting the health of the residents. It needs to be shifted from here, said Dubey.
The residents sat on the train tracks to protest and demand fulfilment of their conditions. The traffic on the road near the tracks was also affected as it was blocked. Vehicles were not allowed to cross the area. Even as the railway officials tried negotiating, the protesters were not ready to relent.
Area councillor Rajinder Kaur Rattu said since trucks were loaded at the yard for transportation of the material, there was heavy traffic on the road. The road was not built to endure such pressure. When plying of trucks was prohibited within the city for a certain period, the same should be done here.
