Patiala police avert inter-gang rivalry killing, arrest 3

The Patiala police on Friday arrested three operatives of a gang run by a foreign-based gangster.

Patiala Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Varun Sharma said they received a tip-off about the hideout of three associates of US-based absconding gangster Gurwinder Singh alias Gurbaj. The gang was active in arms trafficking, extortion, and other criminal activities.

A police team headed by Harry Boparai, Rajpura Special Cell in-charge, raided the hideout in Uksi Sania and arrested the three criminals. Three .32 calibre pistols, eight live cartridges, and a Ford Icon vehicle were seized in the raid.

The arrested accused have been identified as Shamsher Singh Shera, Rohit and Gulshan.

The SSP further said the three were tasked to carry out the targeted killing of a member of the rival Goldy Dhillon gang.

Goldy Dhillon, an aide of absconding gangster Goldy Brar, is presently based in Portugal and is the mastermind of the January firing incident at Sector 5 in Chandigarh.
