Haryana State Co-operative Supply and Marketing Federation Limited and Swami Devi Dyal Institute of Colleges pulled up

Not maintaining the roundabouts properly can cost NGOs dear. The Horticulture wing of Haryana Urban Development Authority (HUDA) has decided to pull up the NGOs that have neglected roundabouts in the township. In no mood to spare them, the department says it would withdraw possession from a few erring parties. The maintenance of roundabouts in the township is given to NGOs who volunteer for the same. Hence, from plantation of shrubs, ornamental plants to daily care, the onus lies on the NGO concerned.

Various organisations are currently looking after about six roundabouts across the township, which include HAFED,Pallavi Hotel,LIC,one by a newspaper and another by real estate developer. The maintenance of each of these roundabouts costs about Rs 2 to 2.5 lakh per annum. The Horticulture department which reviews these roundabouts on a regular basis has decided to pull up a few who have failed to deliver as promised. Senior officials in the department say that prominent among these are the Sector 2-5-6 roundabout, which is being looked after by Haryana State Co-operative Supply and Marketing Federation Limited. The roundabout in the care of Swami Devi Dyal Institute of Colleges, too,is in dire straits. The department has decided to send a warning notice to these organisations to properly maintain the premises or else the possession will be forfeited. These roundabouts are currently full of wild grass, which has not been pruned and even plants are clamouring for attention.

“Whenever we hand over the premises to them, there is a proper notification that the entire expenditure will be borne by them and that the same would be properly taken care of. We have received complaints about the poor maintenance of these earlier as well. So this would be the final warning and we would given them sometime till we review them again,” said HS Malik, superintending engineer,Horticulture department (HUDA). “We would give it to someone else who is able to look after it in a better way in case they do not respond,” he added.
