A Panchkula realtor was waylaid and robbed of Rs 4 lakh cash and gold ornaments worth around Rs 5 lakh at gunpoint in broad daylight on the busy Kharar-Ropar stretch of National Highway 21 near Padiala village, close to Kharar. Two unknown bikers intercepted Radhey Soni of Sector 20,who was on his way back home from Kurali in his Tata Safari, and robbed him before fleeing with the cash and gold jewellery that he was carrying along, the police said here today. However, another Rs 3 lakh cash that the victim was carrying was saved as the robbers could not any clue about it. Soni, who deals in the property business in the Kharar area, told the police that he had received Rs 4 lakh cash from a person to whom he had sold his car and after getting the money in Kurali,he was driving back home. As I approached a private womens college in Padiala at around 2.50 pm,two persons riding a black Enfield motorcycle overtook me and signaled to me that one of my car tyres had become deflated. When I did not pay any attention, they waylaid me after bringing their bike in front of my car, recalled the 29-year-old realtor. He revealed that as he was forced to stop, the pillion rider of the bike approached him. As he tried to come out of the car,the miscreant pushed him inside, pulled out a revolver and placed it on his temple. He asked me to hand him over the cash bag, which I had placed near the hand brake. Fearing for my life,I conceded his demand, following which he asked me to give him all the gold ornaments I was wearing, Soni told the police. He said that the robber also snatched away his mobile phone and damaged it by throwing it on the highway. Soni said that both the miscreants,in their early 30s and with muffled faces, interacted in chaste Punjabi dialect and sped away towards Kharar. However,he could not gather the courage to follow them. I did not even remember to note down their bikes registration number, he claimed. For a couple of minutes,I could not realise what had happened and thereafter I drove to my Kharar office, where I narrated the incident to my friends. They took me to the police station, the realtor told Newsline. The police have lodged a case of robbery, acts done in furtherance of common intention and offences punishable under the relevant Sections of the Arms Act but no clue about the robbers could be traced yet.
