Driver flees; eyewitness notes car registration no.
A 3-year-old girl was crushed under a car in Sector 38
on Monday morning.
The deceased has been identified as Gehna who was going to the market near her house to buy a chocolate. Ashok,father of the deceased,runs a tattoo and mehndi shop in Sector 22 while the mother Jyoti is a housewife.
According to Mukesh,an eyewitness,the incident took place around 11.40 am. Mukesh was standing along with his friends near the mini-market in Sector 38 when two persons in a Tata Safari (PB-65-G-1919) passed dangerously close to him. The driver of the car,Mukesh claimed,folded his hands and apologised .
The SUV hit the girl while negotiating a turn a few meters from where Mukesh was standing. Gehna had come to buy a chocolate at the market just opposite her house. Earlier,the family had just returned from the temple on the occasion of Shivratri.
She was hit by the cars bumper due to which she fell on the ground and got crushed under the moving car. The car driver fled from the spot but its registration number was noted down by Mukesh.
She was rushed to a private hospital in an autorickshaw,from where she was referred to GMSH-16. The duty doctors then further referred her to PGI,where she was declared brought dead.
When contacted,Investigating Officer (IO) Sub-Inspector Gurmit Singh said,We have registered a case of causing death due to negligence at the Sector 39 police station and are trying to trace the accused.
Not wearing seat belt proves fatal
A Morinda resident was killed when the Bolero jeep in which he was travelling was hit by a Cielo near the Sector 29/ 30 light point in the wee hours of Monday. The police said,Mohali resident Ramesh Chand,who was sitting on the passenger seat,was critically injured in the accident as he was not wearing a seat belt.
He was rushed to GMCH-32 where he died during treatment. Gurmeet Singh,the driver of Cielo,was also injured in the accident and has been admitted to GMCH-32.
Jagdeep,the driver of Bolero jeep,fled from the spot. The cops have registered a case of causing death due to negligence at the Industrial Area Police station against Gurmeet. The deceased used to work as a supervisor with a security company.
In an another incident,an unidentified vehicle hit the motorcycle of Mohali resident Kapil Dev near the CRPF camp,Hallo Majra,on Sunday. Dev was injured in the accident and admitted to GMCH-32.
