Khanna police in Ludhiana has registered an FIR against the representatives of a company that promotes organic farming and sells related agri-products, for allegedly duping farmers of lakhs of rupees.
The FIR was registered on Wednesday at Samrala police station and five of the eight accused have been held.
Police said that the company — Generation of Farming — had set up swanky outlets across Punjab, Haryana, and other states, projecting itself as a pioneer in organic farming. However, according to the complainants, the company’s representatives would ask people to invest money to get two-times returns.
The case has been registered on the complaint of Joginder Kumar of Baba Nand Singh Nagar, Phullanwal, Ludhiana, who along with his brother-in-law Manoj Kumar, was allegedly duped of over Rs 22.75 lakh. Joginder said the company convinced them that higher investments would yield higher returns. Trusting the assurances, the duo transferred Rs 25.75 lakh to the company’s accounts on March 26 this year of which only Rs 3 lakh was returned. The rest were allegedly siphoned off.
Police said that prima facie, the company has secured investments from several other farmers in Punjab and Haryana promising them double returns and it was being probed further.
Sub-Inspector Pavittar Singh, SHO Samrala Police station, stated that an FIR under sections 318(4) (cheating and dishonestly inducing the delivery of property.), 316(2) (criminal breach of trust by a carrier), 338 (forgery of valuable security, will, etc), 336(3) (forgery), 340 (2) (using a forged document or electronic record as genuine), 61(2) (criminal conspiracy) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) has been lodged against the accused.
The arrested men have been identified as Avtar Singh of village Khirnian in Samrala, Bikramjit Singh of village Gehlewal in Samrala, Amit Khullar of Navan Purba Faridkot Road in Ferozepur, Harpreet Singh of village Gehlewal of Samrala, and Jitendra Singh, alias Kamal Grewal, of Mandi Gobindgarh. The others — Parvinder Singh of Baina Buland of Fatehgarh Sahib, Jaspreet Singh of Jalpur of Samrala, and Satwinder Singh alias Sona of Amloh of Fatehgarh Sahib — remain at large.
