In a strongly worded joint press conference held at the state office of the Progressive Front Punjab (PFP) in Mohali, leaders of the PFP, CPM, and Kisan Union held the Punjab Chief Minister, Chief Secretary, senior officials, and the Bhakra Beas Management Board responsible for the devastation caused by the recent floods.

PFP chairman Advocate Darshan Singh Dhaliwal said that as early as April 6, 2025, the front had submitted a memorandum through the Mohali Deputy Commissioner, urging timely preventive measures such as desilting of rivers, drains, and canals and repairing embankments before the monsoon. Later, on June 18, 2025, a legal notice was also sent to the Chief Secretary and departmental heads.

“Regrettably, neither the government responded to the notice nor implemented any flood-control measures,” Dhaliwal said. He added that copies of the notice were also dispatched to the Punjab CM, AAP president Aman Arora, Finance Minister Harpal Singh Cheema, Minister Varinder Kumar Goel, and Deputy Commissioners of 23 districts but none replied. Dhaliwal announced that the front would soon file a writ petition in the Punjab and Haryana High Court seeking action against negligent officials.

State president Harminder Singh Mavi accused the AAP leadership of abandoning Punjab during its crisis. “They camped here for months, but when Punjabis are drowning, they have fled back to Delhi,” he charged. He also alleged illegal mining near embankments weakened riverbanks and demanded an all-party meeting for coordinated relief efforts.

Other leaders, including CPM’s Balvir Singh Musafir and retired police officer Mahinder Singh Manouli, pressed for immediate compensation, fixing accountability of dam managements, and releasing at least Rs 5 lakh per affected family. They also demanded Rs 1 crore for each life lost.

The meeting was also addressed by BKU (Rajewal) district president Kirpal Singh Siaow and employees’ leader Dr Daljit Singh Kahlon.
