The Chandigarh administration celebrated the 67th Independence Day with enthusiasm at the Parade Ground in Sector 17. UT administrator Shivraj V Patil,chief guest for the occasion,unfurled the national flag and took salutes from the Police and NCC cadets. He also paid tribute to the soldiers and officers of defence forces,who sacrificed their lives while protecting the country and interacted with families of freedom fighters. Also,tri-colour balloons were released and a march past and colourful dance performances were organised. Prominent persons and UT employees,recognised for their respective services in the field of public services,arts and culture,social services and sports,were awarded certificates by the Chandigarh administration. Police personnel were awarded medals for their meritorious services. Students of Shivalik Public School,Sector 41 and Government Model Senior Secondary School,Sector 10 presented a patriotic dance performance. The Chandigarh Traffic Police were adjudged the best in the parade,while in the cultural performances,Shivalik Public School Sector 41 and Government Model Senior Secondary School were declared joint winners.
