Haryana's Leader of Opposition and former chief minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda. (Express File Photo) Senior Congress leader Bhupinder Singh Hooda Friday blamed “outsiders” for indulging in violence in Nuh “with an intention to disturb peace” and added that the ruling BJP-JJP coalition government in the state has a lot to answer in monsoon session of Vidhan Sabha commencing from August 25.
“The communal harmony and brotherhood could never be disturbed in Nuh by the district’s natives. It was rather the outsiders who entered Nuh and indulged in violence with an intention to disturb peace and harmony.
Even the police reports suggest that the majority of those involved in the violence were not from Nuh and had rather come there from other areas. The government needs to give many answers in the forthcoming session of the Vidhan Sabha,” said Hooda, the Leader of Opposition.
Ever since the communal violence erupted in Nuh on July 31, both the sides – ruling faction and the Opposition – have been blaming each other. While the BJP legislators had been blaming Congress MLA Mamman Khan for his scathing attack on cow vigilante Monu Manesar, the Opposition had been accusing the state government for not making adequate security arrangements despite having advance information about possibility of a tension during the VHP and Bajrang Dal’s Brajmandal Yatra.
Both the sides have vehemently denied any role in the communal violence. However, the Opposition is all set to corner the treasury benches in the upcoming session, especially on the issue of communal violence.
“It is very evident who is involved in this communal violence, which is why the state government is shying away from a judicial inquiry into this incident. Why is the government not ordering a judicial probe? What scares them? It is a clear mismanagement on the part of the state government,” the former chief minister said.
He added, “It is quite ironic that in our state the home minister does not head the intelligence wing. It is like the minister is working without eyes and ears. As a result, it is the people of the state who are suffering because of this mismanagement.”
“Deploying barely a handful of police personnel on the route from where the Yatra had to cross, allowing people to carry weapons in the religious procession which even senior BJP leader Rao Inderjit Singh has questioned, deploying home guards on the route where intelligence wing has already given inputs about a possible law and order tension, the Superintendent of Police’s absence from the spot, outsiders in Nuh etc; there are many such questions that the state government needs to answer,” Hooda said.
Talking about the people of Nuh, Hooda added, “Despite being a Muslim dominated area, all the communities in Nuh are known for their brotherhood and spirit of patience and communal harmony. Even after the forces that attempted to disrupt this communal harmony in Nuh, people of the area have not let these forces work and are living with each other like they always used to.
Besides the violence, the Congress will also try to corner the government on issues such as the goof-ups during the Common Eligibility Test by the Haryana Staff Selection Commission, rising unemployment, price-rise, delayed compensation to farmers for crop loss due to the recent floods, government recruitments through Haryana Kaushal Rozgar Nigam etc.
