The tussle between Congress councillor Mukesh Bassi and Mayor Subhash Chawla continued on Sunday with the former shooting off another letter to Chawla accusing him of not taking councillors into confidence for work in their wards. While Bassi had complained of the Mayors undue interference in his ward,Sundays provocation was the Mayors meetings over a period of time with the resident welfare association in Sector 21 regarding terms and conditions for allowing children to play in the school playgrounds. A decision had been taken around two months back that the pilot project would be started in Sector 21,which is part of Bassis ward. The issue had been discussed in the meeting between the Administration and the Municipal Corporation. As per the proposal,MC would deploy guards outside the schools and will be responsible for any damage to the schools property. The project, however,is yet to take off. In his letter,Bassi now claims that the Mayor finalised the entire process with the concerned residents welfare association of Sector 21 but had not shared anything related to this project with him. The councillor has also sought a justification for this. You never invited area councillor in the meetings in which you finalized terms and conditions related to the project. No information was ever given to the area councillor. Moreover you never sought my comment on the minutes of meetings which were held between you and sector association. In total,I want to say that area councillor was never involved in any stage of the project, Bassis letter reads. He has also questioned on how an area councillor can be held responsible for the success or failure of projects in his ward when he has not been involved with them. Whatever belongs to you today, belonged to someone else yesterday and It will belong to someone else tomorrow. Dont be illusioned by power. Power is the root cause of all pain and misery, Bassi quotes from the Bhagvad Gita. The proposal for allowing playgrounds in schools to be opened for children in the evening has been doing the rounds for a long time, but has been meeting with objections. Around two months back, children held a protest in Sector 21 to raise this demand. The Mayor had met them and the proposal was then mooted. The Mayor, meanwhile, refused to comment on the issue.
