A local court of Justice D P Singla cancelled the bail of Puneet Jain, son of Moga MLA and Congress leader Joginder Pal Jain, and issued non-bailable warrants ordering his arrest .
Puneet, along with his father, mother Swaranlata Jain, brother Akshit Jain and sister Rohini Jain, was booked by Mehna police for selling agricultural land for commercial and residential purposes,in violation of PUDA Act,1999. The Jain family was booked in August,2007,and in October,2008,a challan in this case was filed by the Moga police. The case was, however, shifted to Faridkot court in March this year on the request of the MLA and the case came up for hearing on April 1. During the hearing, the judge ordered Puneet to be present in the court personally for the next hearing which was held on Wednesday.
Puneet, who is in Canada failed to appear before the court. He had been evading his presence by filing applications of leave through his counsel. In the application filed on Wednesday,Puneet claimed that despite his attempts he could not get a ticket to fly back home. The judge did not accept this plea and issued non-bailable warrants against Puneet.
MLA Joginder Pal Jain confirmed the development and said,The judge had first asked me to file an affidavit stating that I will bring Puneet to court within one month failing which a case will be filed against me. I refused to file this affidavit because we have been falsely implicated. If I failed to bring Puneet,I would find myself in another case.
Jain added,Puneet is a co-accused in this case and lives separately. I have filed an application in the Punjab and Haryana High court seeking permission to go to Canada and convince Puneet to come back. This is all I can do and as a law abiding citizen this is what I will do.
