The residents of Modern Housing Complex,Manimajra, are a harassed lot these days. The lack of speedbreakers in the area and the installation of unmanned entry-exit gates in the locality are the issues of concern among residents for which numerous letters and reminders have been written to the Municipal Corporation but to no avail. While talking to Newsline,a Modern Housing Complex resident,Vishal said,There are no speed breakers in the area. Motorists drive their vehicles at breakneck speed in residential areas but authorities have turned a blind eye towards the issue. Several accidents have taken place in the area due to reckless driving and umpteen blind corners in the area, but the police have also not taken any action in this regard. Unlike other parts of the city, where full-bodied school buses are not allowed to ply on inner (V-6) roads of the sectors; there is no such rule existing in this part. School buses, heavy vehicles, all pose a serious threat to morning walkers in the area, said Eisha, another resident of the same locality. The entry-exit gates, which are now installed by the Municipal Corporation to avert thefts in the area must be a good step, but there is nobody to man such gates. The gates,if remain opened at a particular angle,it impairs the vision through the gates completely. One can not see any traffic coming from the other side of the gate. Despite our several requests,no authority has yet acted, said Sandeep, another Modern Housing Complex resident. Post 9 pm,the roads in Modern Housing Complex become racing tracks and there is no one to check on the speed limits, putting several lives on stake,Vishal added. When asked, the area councillor,Gurcharan Dass Kalaa, said,Speedbreakers were constructed initially, but a section of residents protested to it and they had to be removed. We are in process of holding meetings with the area residents, after which we shall take the problems of residents to a logical conclusion.
