The Samyukt Kisan Morcha (SKM) has decided to hold nationwide protests against the central government against what it called a “renewed and baseless assault” on the historic farmers’ movement, in the FIR against NewsClick.
In a statement released Sunday, the SKM expressed deep dismay and condemned the “scurrilous and malafide allegations” leveled against the “deeply patriotic” Farmers’ Movement in an FIR lodged by the Special Cell of the Delhi Police against media outlet NewsClick and several journalists. The SKM refuted these allegations, branding them as “false and politically motivated.”
It rejected the accusations that the agitation sought to disrupt vital supplies, damage property, inflict economic losses, or create law and order disturbances through illegal foreign funding. They emphasised that their protest was peaceful, highlighting that farmers caused no disruption or destruction.
The morcha laid blame on the government for exacerbating law and order issues through actions such as deploying barbed wire fencing, water cannons, and other such measures.
The SKM also raised questions regarding funds from China and accused the government of colluding with crony capitalists. The statement also questioned the impartiality of the Delhi Police. The SKM alleged that the FIR was an attempt to tarnish the farmers’ agitation and craft an anti-farmer narrative.
Dr Darshan Pal, member of the coordination meeting of the SKM, said they will hold nationwide mass protests in every state capital, district headquarters, and tehsil headquarters to demand the immediate withdrawal of the allegations regarding the agitation in the Newsclick FIR.
Delegations led by SKM leaders will submit petitions to key authorities, warning of forthcoming sit-in protests and demonstrations if their demands are not met with.
