New districts only on public demand,promises Dhumal

Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Prem Kumar Dhumal on Tuesday said that he was not averse to creation of new districts in the state.

In a move that is contrary to the stand his party and government has taken inside the Assembly,Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Prem Kumar Dhumal on Tuesday said that he was not averse to creation of new districts in the state.

“The government is not averse to creation of new districts,but (they should be created) only if the people demand,” Dhumal said.

In reply to query on formation of new districts in Himachal Pradesh,particularly Kangra,Dhumal while talking to reporters outside the Assembly,said that during his earlier tenure,he had posted Additional Deputy Commissioner (ADC) rank officers at sub-divisions but later the Congress government reversed the move.

“However,if the people demand new districts,the government would consider it,” he added. Ironically,the BJP government,in the Assembly,had taken a stand against the creation of new districts.

The CM also took on the Congress for its non-serious attitude towards the House business. “It is a leaderless and issue-less party,which chosen to waste the day.”

He said that 36 questions,including 28 by Congress,were listed for the day,but the Opposition only tried to stall the proceedings. “The kind of slogans they raised,has lowered the prestige of the Assembly,” the CM added.

He assured that those involved in the job scam at Dehra will not be spared. The accused are in the judicial lock up and law would take its course against them,he added.

Sale of liquor to kids below 18 yrs of age will be offence in HP

Himachal Chief Minister Prem Kumar Dhumal on Tuesday introduced a new Bill,which debars the sale of liquor to persons who less than 18 years of age. It also bars the employment of persons below the age of 18 in liquor trade.

Dhumal said the Bill has been introduced based on instructions from the Central government.

Under the new Bill,persons found guilty of selling liquor to a person below the age of 18,would be fined between Rs 2,000 to Rs 10,000.

In all six new bills were introduced in the House.
