Nearly two months ahead of the Lok Sabha elections in Punjab, cricketer-turned-politician Navjot Singh Sidhu is back on his yesteryear pitch – cricket commentary. Star Sports announced in a post on X on Tuesday that Sidhu would be a commentator for the Indian Premier League (IPL) which starts on March 22. “Sardar of commentary box is back,” the official handle of the channel said. A wise man once said, "Hope is the biggest ‘tope’" And this wise man, the great @sherryontopp himself, has joined our Incredible StarCast! 👏 Don't miss his incredible commentary (and gajab one-liners) in #IPLOnStar - STARTS MAR 22, 6:30 PM onwards, LIVE on Star Sports Network! pic.twitter.com/BjmFq9OKQ4 — Star Sports (@StarSportsIndia) March 19, 2024 A former Punjab Congress chief, Sidhu is a former three-time Lok Sabha MP from Amritsar, a one-time Rajya Sabha MP and a one-time MLA from Amritsar East. He is also a former cabinet minister. Sidhu has been saying that he will not contest the upcoming Lok Sabha elections even as the Congress high command is yet to announce party candidates for 13 seats. Punjab will vote for the Lok Sabha elections on June 1. Not sharing a stage in the programmes led by Punjab Congress chief Amrinder Singh Raja Warring and leader of the Opposition Partap Singh Bajwa, Sidhu has been politically active by holding parallel shows of strength in the state with a set of Congress leaders showing allegiance to him in the recent past. It would be after years of staying away that former MP Sidhu would step into the shoes of a cricket commentator again. Apart from commentary, Sidhu has worn several other hats – from appearing in the Kapil Sharma stand-up comedy and talk show to his role as a motivational speaker.
