Haul of tablets seized by the Chandigarh Police from a Sector-15 resident and a resident of Assam that was to be sold to four residents Mizoram,was on Tuesday sent to the Central Revenues Control Laboratory,New Delhi,by the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) for examination. The police is examining the case for production and sale of the narcotics by Karan Kakkar,one of the accused who owns a pharmaceutical factory in Panchkula.
NCB director Ashok K Yadav said,We had received the seizure of 176 kg pseudoephedrine tablets from the UT Police on Monday evening. The samples will be tested for amount of narcotics present.
This drug does not have any opiate. The drug has narcotic qualities and is consumed by addicts as it is, Yadav said. Opiate is a base compound from which heroin is extracted,an NCB official said.
The accused are at present in police custody. The police has acquired documents pertaining to the sale and purchase of pseudoephedrine. These documents are only to confirm if Kakkar was informing the NCB about the sale and purchase of the drug, a police official said.
