Namdhari murder: No clean chit to sect head’s nephew

The Namdhari sect headquarters situated at Bhaini Sahib has denied giving any clean chit to Thakur Dalip Singh in the murder of Sant Avtar Singh Tari,as reported in certain sections of the media.

The Namdhari sect headquarters situated at Bhaini Sahib has denied giving any clean chit to Thakur Dalip Singh in the murder of Sant Avtar Singh Tari,as reported in certain sections of the media.

HS Hanspal, former state Congress president who released a statement on behalf of the sect on Wednesday, said,“Who are we to give a clean chit? This is the task of the police. The police will conduct an inquiry, they will investigate the case and see who is guilty and whom to give the clean chit. Neither do we charge Thakur Dalip Singh nor do we give him a clean chit.”

When asked whether the darbar had tried to contact Thakur Dalip Singh or vice versa,Hanspal said,“No. Thakur Dalip Singh has not been coming to Bhaini Sahib for quite some time now. No one from the headquarters has tried to contact him and neither has he tried to get in touch with us.”

On the issue whether Satguru Jagjit Singh the sect head has issued any instructions,Hanspal said,“Satguruji is in a state of maun (quiet). He is bed-ridden and has not said anything about this entire issue. He has handed over the affairs of Bhaini Sahib to Sant Jagtar Singh, his son-in-law and Thakur Uday Singh the elder brother of Thakur Dalip Singh.”

Meanwhile the Ludhiana Police are either moving over cautiously in this case or else are going slow for despite having his name in the FIR they still have to question Thakur Dalip Singh, let alone make any arrests. It has been three days now since this high-profile murder broke the peace in Katani Kalan village.

Kuldeep Singh,ADCP crime who is investigating the case explains,“We are conducting investigation in a scientific manner. These days there are many tools available. For instance,we will trace the calls made or received by Avtar Singh just before he was killed and so on.”

Asked whether the Ludhiana police had tried to get in touch with Thakur Dalip Singh or issued any orders restraining him from flying out of the country,Singh said,“No,we have not done any such thing. It is only after we have something concrete in our hands that we will question Thakur Dalip Singh. Thakur Dalip Singh has many business interests here in India and he is not likely to flee or go underground,” said Singh.
