Murders drive up Haryana crime graph

Haryana’s crime graph went up in the year 2010 with more murders and attempts to murder taking place in the state.

Haryana’s crime graph went up in the year 2010 with more murders and attempts to murder taking place in the state. In all,954 murders took place in the state last year,against 906 in 2009. The number of rape cases,too,went up in Haryana last year.

According to sources,besides the 954 murders,attempts to murder were also made on 798 people in 2010. In 2009,around 700 cases of attempt to murder were recorded,according to records of Haryana Police.

Rohtak and Hisar ranges recorded the highest number of murders in the state. In the Hisar range,262 murders took place. Rohtak range was slightly behind with 261. Ambala and Rewari ranges fared better. As many as 134 murders were recorded in the Ambala range,while Rewari recorded 105 murders. Gurgaon Police Commissionerate recorded 74 and Faridabad Police Commissionerate 54 murders.

Police sources say property disputes were a major cause for murders in the state. However,more than 30 cases of honour killings also came to light last year,which was a disturbing trend.

The number of rape cases increased to 680 last year from around 577 in 2009. On average,two women were sexually assaulted in the state everyday. Rohtak police range recorded the highest number of rape cases — 230,while Hisar range was second with 203,say sources.
