Initially projected as a case of theft, the probe revealed that the victim, Gomti, was killed by none other than her husband, Sandeep Singh.
Police said Sandeep was arrested after sustained interrogation, during which he made an extra-judicial confession, admitting to murdering his wife. The alleged theft angle was exposed as a deliberate ploy to mislead investigators. The stolen gold and silver ornaments, along with the wooden weapon used in the crime, have been recovered from his possession.
On September 27, 2025, Gomti’s body was discovered in the fruit orchard at Padiala village. Based on Sandeep Singh’s initial statement, a case was registered at Kurali police station under sections 103, 305, 331(8), and 3(5) of the BNS. He tried to divert suspicion by claiming it was a robbery, but the Special Investigation Team soon unearthed the truth.

According to the police, he confessed that constant quarrels had embittered their relationship, and in a fit of rage, he attacked her with a wooden stick, killing her on the spot. To cover up, he hid her jewellery to make it look like a theft.
The Kurali SHO confirmed that following Sandeep’s arrest, sections 305 (abetment of murder), 331(8) (causing physical injury), and 3(5) BNS were additionally invoked. “Marital discord appears to be the primary motive. Further interrogation is underway to rule out the involvement of any other person,” the SHO added.
