The Municipal Corporation Chandigarh has received a financial lifeline of Rs 125 crore from the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA).
The sanction, issued Wednesday, is expected to ease the civic body’s financial crunch and ensure uninterrupted delivery of essential services.
Chandigarh Mayor Harpreet Kaur Babla said that the grant will enable the MC to clear pending dues, release salaries on time, and maintain essential services such as sanitation, water supply, waste management, and street lighting.
“It will also help restart stalled road works, including carpeting of V4, V5, and V6 roads, and strengthen ongoing infrastructure and civic improvement projects,” said Mayor Babla.
