The District Administration is contemplating suspending the sarpanch of Bhoj Ponta area of Morni who has already been charged with irregularities in the implementation of the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (MNREGA). According to officials, the suspension of the sarpanch,Danwanti,is actively under the consideration of the government as it has been found that she had got prepared fake muster rolls to siphon off the money. District development and panchayat officer,Kapil Sharma, said that an inquiry was constituted to find the role of the sarpanch and it has been found that she has committed irregularities in the implementation of the scheme. Under the scheme, roads and some other infrastructure projects were to be developed. Sharma said that the sarpanch has been found to be involved in major irregularities in the implementation. Not only were muster rolls faked, but even the money was drawn on the names of persons who had died. Over Rs 1.5 lakh was siphoned off,Sharma said. We found during the inquiry that works were not implemented by the sarpanch, he said. Sharma said that though the district administration is contemplating suspension of the woman sarpanch,he however said that she will also be heard in the case. We have already issued the notice to the sarpanch, but the evidence against her in the case is very strong, Sharma said. We found that dead persons were shown to have worked under the scheme and even the money was drawn on the names of some people who were known to the sarpanch, Sharma further added.
