Former Chief Minister and Leader of the Opposition (LOP) Jairam Thakur alleged in the house on Friday that the state government was spying on his residence through drones.

Raising the temperature in the house, Jairam Thakur claimed, “A drone took flight from the adjacent house of a senior police officer and swooped almost to the windows of my house for spying. This has been happening for the past couple of weeks. The latest incident occurred this morning around 9:30 am.”

The opposition leaders strongly objected to the response of Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu, who rejected the allegations and said, “Jairam Thakur has a habit of creating sensationalism. It couldn’t be the Himachal Pradesh police. It might be central agencies, including the Enforcement Directorate or the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), that have been spying on the respected LOP’s house. We will definitely write to the ED and CBI in this matter.”

Chief Minister Sukhu also advised Jairam Thakur not to lose his temper, as it is not good for one’s health.

However, the opposition leaders disrupted the house proceedings and approached the well of the house, demanding that Vidhan Sabha Speaker Kuldeep Singh Pathania withdraw his purported comments on nine legislators.

BJP MLA from Barsar, Inderdutt Lakhanpal, raised this issue in the house.

In his reply, Speaker Kuldeep Singh Pathania said, “I did not make any such comments inside the house. Outside this house, I have other duties as well. The comments referred to by the opposition leaders have nothing to do with the house.”

The Speaker’s response triggered a sharp reaction, and all opposition leaders, led by Jairam Thakur, reached the well of the house, raising slogans.

Amidst the sloganeering, Speaker Kuldeep Singh Pathania adjourned the house until 2 pm.
