The doctor who first examined Monika Goyal,a 32-year old teacher who was found hanging in her Sector 21 residence last year,told the court on Thursday that she should have been rushed to the hospital immediately to improve her chances of survival. However,she was allegedly taken to the hospital after an hour. During the resumed hearing of the Monika murder case at the court of District & Sessions Judge prosecution witness Dr Chaman Lal told the Court that he asked the family of the deceased to rush her to the hospital immediately after the incident. Lal said when he reached the Goyal residence,Monikas family,rather than rushing her to the hospital let her die. He added that when he reached her house,Monikas in-laws told him that they got to know of the incident 20 minutes back. The doctor submitted,that the family made no attempt to save her by taking her to the hospital. However,the family called an ambulance and waited for it to arrive. When they reached the Government Multi-Specialty Hospital (GMSH),Sector 16 Monika was declared dead on arrival. On October 15,Monika was allegedly found hanging in her Sector 21 residence. According to her in-laws,her husband Vikas Goyal was the first to find her. Lal received a call from the Goyals and was informed that Monika was ill. Lal reached the Goyal residence and on examination could not feel her pulse. Injuries were also found on the body. While the victims husband and family claimed that she committed suicide,Monikas parents have been alleging since the day Monika died that she was murdered. A Special Investigation Team was constituted after the parents of the deceased approached the city Senior Superintendent of Police Naunihal Singh on October 31. Charge of murder under Section 302 of the Indian Penal Code apart from abetment of suicide under section 306 of the Indian Penal Code was added in the FIR by the Chandigarh Police following investigations.
