Sewage treatment system upgrade: Official reviews project status
GMADA’s Chief Administrator, Rajiv Kumar Gupta, inspected the site in Sector 83 to review the status of these projects on Saturday.

Greater Mohali Area Development Authority (GMADA) is working to upgrade the existing sewage treatment plant (STP) and construct a new sewage treatment plant in the city to reduce the dependence on groundwater and make tertiary water available for non-potable activities such as washing, flushing, construction etc.
GMADA’s Chief Administrator, Rajiv Kumar Gupta, inspected the site in Sector 83 to review the status of these projects on Saturday. The work of upgrading the sewage treatment plant with the existing capacity of 10 mgd to 15 mgd is in process.
The engineering team that accompanied Kumar apprised him that to treat the sewage water originating from sectors 53-82, a sewage treatment plant of 10 MGD capacity was already in place in sector 83, but considering future needs the work to upgrade this STP was started.
The engineering wing said that the work was halfway through and would be completed by the end of this year. On completion, tertiary water for non-potable activities will be available to the residents.
The administrator asked the engineering wing to meet the deadline of the project so that residents will be benefitted to the earliest.
Kumar also paid a visit to Aerocity, where the work to design and construct a 15 mld capacity main pumping station, 10 mld capacity sewage treatment plant and a 5 mld capacity tertiary treatment plant was being executed.
The engineering team said that this project is expected to complete by July 31 this year. The residents of Aerocity after that would be able to use this tertiary water for construction, washing of vehicles, gardening, etc. It would further reduce dependence on groundwater, besides saving the natural resources from getting polluted because of use of untreated water used for such purposes.
The official stated that to provide world class amenities to the residents, GMADA was executing different projects. The authority was committed to provide liveable and healthy surroundings to the inhabitants of different projects besides taking care that the natural resources are not wasted, he said.
