Mohali police exposes Rs 1.15 crore immigration fraud, 11 agents booked

The Mohali police has registered 11 FIRs and unearthed a Rs 1.15-crore fraud involving bogus agents who duped people with false promises of sending them abroad.

SSP Harmandeep Singh Hans said the drive was launched under the supervision of DSP (Investigation) Jatinder Singh Chauhan and led by Inspector Jaskamal Singh Sekhon, incharge of the Anti-Human Trafficking Unit.

“During investigation, several unauthorised immigration consultants and institutes were found operating in Mohali without valid licences. These entities were deceiving citizens and students under the pretext of overseas placement and study opportunities,” said SSP Hans.

The accused have been booked under sections 316(2), 318(4), and 61(2) of the BNS, along with Section 24 of the Immigration Act.

Prominent names under scrutiny include Nexus Academy (VIP Road, Zirakpur), Best Travel Agency, Royal Gateway of Migration, and offices located at SCO 17, Phase-1, and SCF 1, Phase-5, Mohali, among others.

Reaffirming the department’s zero-tolerance policy toward such frauds, SSP Hans stated, “Mohali police is committed to protecting citizens from immigration scams and will continue to take strict legal action against offenders.” He urged residents to use only licensed immigration services and to report suspicious activities to the nearest police station or the Cyber Helpline (1930).
