The gym trainer who survived the early-morning shooting in Punjab’s Mohali on Thursday has alleged that the Chandigarh Police were shielding the true culprits.
The Chandigarh Police had arrested two youths identified as Ritik Bhardwaj and Aman in connection with the shooting.
The gym owner, Vicky, recovering from multiple bullet wounds, said the two arrested youths who were seen in a viral video claiming responsibility for the attack are not the real culprits.
“I know who fired at me. The police are trying to save the actual shooters, Vikas and Bholu, with the collusion of the Operation Cell. I have never met the two men they arrested,” Vicky said.
Vicky further accused a Chandigarh police officer of collecting regular “protection money” from local criminals. “This officer framed the two youths as part of a plan to protect Vikas and Bholu, who run a hotel in the area and have longstanding enmity with my friend Veeru.”
Five bullets were fired at Vicky around 5 am on Thursday by two bike-borne assailants as he sat in his car near the Phase 1 and Phase 2 light points.
The suspects also allegedly fired outside Veeru’s hotel soon after the shooting.
After initial treatment at Mohali’s Phase-6 hospital, the gym owner was shifted to the Postgraduate Institute of Medical Education and Research (PGIMER), Chandigarh.
Vicky said that phone records will prove he had no contact with the arrested men.
