201 Covid cases in 13 days, Mohali DC orders testing in two shifts

In view of the increasing cases of Covid-19 — there were 65 reported cases in Mohali district on Thursday — Deputy Commissioner Aashika Jain has issued instructions to carry out the work of Covid-19 testing in two shifts. She gave these orders due to the delay in receiving the test reports. .

Since April 1, the district has recorded 201 positive Covid-19 cases. Issuing instructions to speed up the work of Punjab Biotechnology Incubator (PBTI) and other labs, the DC said that the report of each test must be received before 24 hours.

In this regard, an official spokesperson said that earlier there was a delay in the work of sampling, in view of which the DC took stock of the situation during a meeting with the Civil Surgeon and officials of PBTI. It was decided to run the work of PBTI in two shifts. Earlier, working hours of the lab was from 9 am to 5 pm. Now it will be in two shifts till 8 pm.

The DC said that this will solve the problem of sampling and the report in this regard will be received on the same day or the next day by 10 am. This will help in the early detection of coronavirus and the victim can isolate from others in time. The DC said that this process will prevent the further spread of coronavirus. Along with this, she also asked the authorities to increase the testing of Covid-19.

The DC directed the health department officials to ensure immediate testing in case a person shows symptoms of Covid. She has appealed to the people to get RT-PCR test instead of RAT in case of any doubt.

The DC asked the authorities to increase testing of patients suffering from cold, flu, illness, respiratory problems and infections in all hospitals.

The DC has asked people to be cautious in all educational institutions, government and private offices and indoor and outdoor gatherings, malls, public places, besides to wear masks in medical places. She gave instructions to ensure full compliance with norms such as social distancing and not spitting in public places.

The DC also directed the officials of the health department to be fully prepared to deal with the disease. While appealing to the people not to panic, she said that all the arrangements are complete in the district to fight this disease and there is full availability of medicines and beds in hospitals.

UT records 46 Covid cases, Panchkula 104

Chandigarh reported 46 new Covid cases on Thursday, with the positivity rate being 5.96 per cent and the number of active cases 229. The average number of positive cases in the last seven days was 33 and the positivity rate was 5.65 per cent. Samples tested in the last 24 hours were 722. The number of hospitalisations in Chandigarh was 12. Panchkula reported 104 new Covid cases.
