Missing groom: Cops fail to make headway,kin blame fired colleagues

Family members of Kumar rue that the police officials were not making enough effort to find him.

Four days after Naveen Kumar (30),who went missing two days before his wedding,the UT Police has been unsuccessful in making any headway. Family members of Kumar rue that the police officials were not making enough effort to find him.

Kumar went missing from his residence on May 10. His marriage was fixed for May 12. On Sunday,the Punjab Police found Kumar’s motorcycle and bag abandoned near Ropar canal under mysterious circumstances.

“His mobile phone is switched off. We have checked all possible locations. Family members suspect the involvement of some of his employees,whom he had fired a few days before the incident. We have detained some people and they are being questioned,” said Deputy Superintendent of Police Surjit Singh Malik.

On May 10,Kumar left home to visit a salon. When he did not return,Kumar’s family members filed a complaint with the police. Kumar,a software engineer,had been running his firm in Sector 47.

“We had given a complaint to the police,but we feel that the police is not acting swiftly. Kumar had dismissed four people from his office,a few days back. They had been threatening Kumar and wanted to take revenge. We feel that he has been kidnapped. We have been urging the police to question those four people. But,the police officials said that they would wait for a few more days,claiming that his body would surface in the canal,if he committed suicide or if he was murdered and dumped there,” said Sunil Lohar,a family friend.
