As residents of the non-sectoral villages of the city attended the seventh smart city consultation-cum-redressal camp Tuesday, they demanded special recognition for the villages. The residents said the villages lacked basic facilities and there was no one to listen to their problems.
The camp, which covered the areas of sectors 41 and 42, Attawa, Buterla and Badheri, also saw participation from Residents’ Welfare Associations (RWAs), NGOs and market committees, which submitted complaints and suggestions in regard to the smart city mission.
Virender Chaudhary, Joint Commissioner, Municipal Corporation, who was present at the camp, said, “Most of the demands were in regard to the recognition of the villages and maintenance of the unorganised sectors of the city such as Buterla, Attawa, etc. Apart from this, there were complaints about a fish market in Sector 43 and a meat market in Khajeri, both of which we got done away with today itself.”
He added, “There were also complaints about sewerage, water, electricity, sanitation and cleanliness.”
Kashish Mittal, Additional Deputy Commissioner-cum-SDM (South), who had initiated the camp, ensured that the civic body, in collaboration with the administration, would consideration the suggestions and complaints submitted by the residents Tuesday.
He advised the gathering to use the existing grievance redressal mechanism of the administration via the toll-free number 155304, Chandigarh’s smart city app and the website, mugov.in.
On September 30, a camp will be held for wards 24, 25 and 26 at 11 am at the community centre in Modern Housing Complex, Manimajra. Danish Ashraf, Sub-Divisional Magistrate (East)-cum-MC Additional Commissioner, will spearhead the camp.
Members of the resident welfare associations, area councillor Desh Raj Gupta, Gurcharan Dass Kala, Rajinder Kaur and the nodal officer of MC will be present on the occasion.
